Battle Los Angeles

Throw dice with new friends at these tabletop hot spots.

You unwrapped a stack of games, now you’ve just gotta play ’em. Maybe you’ve got a hot deck to dig through, or perhaps you aim to rule a cardboard world. You can make either happen at these LA shops with open tables and endless fun. Pen and paper are encouraged, but sure…you can keep score on your iPad if you must.

Game EmpirePokémon, Warhammer, Settlers of Catan; if you can name it, you can play it at this Pasadena haven. You’ll have plenty of elbow room at their spacious store, plus an ample snack supply to recharge your brain’s battery. Their schedule offeres a wide variety of recreational flavors for every day of the week. Jump on in, the dungeon’s warm.

Emerald Knights Comics and Games – These guys can’t be contained on one floor; it takes a double-decker to fit all their loyal fans. Rent a table for your raiding party and spend several intense hours figuring out the best way to open a door – look out for traps! Whether it’s an open tournament or private match, Emerald Knights understands that RPG sessions never end as early as you think they will. Hang here on the weekends until the clock strikes midnight.

Brave New World Comics – Start your weekend with Magic TCG and wrap it up with HeroClix at this Newhall mainstay. If you only have a few free hours on the weekends for cards and miniatures, the warm atmosphere will make it feel like a week’s paid vacation spent doing what you love most: gaming.
