NERDSWAG: A Monstrous Monsters University Giveaway
The Art of Monsters and Magic from Pixar and Chronicle Books
Monsters University, in theaters Friday, is all about change and growing up (and laughs and scaring). In the film, we get a chance to see the birth of the ultimate monster bromance as Mike and Sully must get over their differences and work together. But, before they could grow up, they had to look younger, a task that was not as easy as you’d think.
Monsters University’s Production Designer Ricky Nierva filled us in that one of the hardest characters to redesign was actually one of the two we’re most familiar with, “Sully was pretty damn hard.” Nierva continued, “Trying to get young Sully took forever. At one point he was this guy that just didn’t care. He was just a really big guy, real fat and just didn’t take care of himself. But, luckily the story was evolving at the same time.”
Chronicle Books’ The Art of Monsters University will show you what the fellas of Oozma Kappa looked like from the earliest stages of concept art. We’ve got a Monstrous Art Book Giveaway including a copy of The Art of Monsters University, The Art of Monsters Inc., two The Art of Pixar postcard sets and The Art of Pixar: The Complete Color Scripts. Monsters University is in theaters Friday and stay tuned to Nerdist and the Nerdist Channel all week for more from the cast and crew.
