Superman: Unbound Flies Onto Blu-ray
The Man of Steel and Brainiac Battle in Your Home!
The loss of Superman’s home planet of Krypton is, rightly, a big point of contention with the Man of Steel. If it hadn’t exploded, he’d never have been sent to Earth, and also wouldn’t have powers far beyond those of mortal men. Still, it was his home. So, imagine how grumpy he’d get after finding out that intergalactic killjoy, Brainiac, had Krypton’s capitol city of Kandor shrunken and put in a jar. Add to that, Supes having to deal with his teenage cousin, Kara (aka Supergirl), and the usual day-to-day of saving Metropolis and you’ve got Superman: Unbound, the newest DC Universe animated movie, available today on Blu-ray and DVD.
Superman: Unbound is based on the 2008 Brainiac storyline from Action Comics written by DC’s now-head of creative, Geoff Johns. It represents Superman’s most emotional and tense battle to date and contains some of his most feely-feels. To correctly embody all of this tension (some might call it “fraught”), the voice cast needed to be tops. Luckily, it is! White Collar‘s Matt Bomer gives voice Superman, Fringe‘s John Noble goes metal as Brainiac and Castle‘s Molly Quinn and Stana Katic dish out some girl power as Supergirl and Lois Lane, respectively. We talked with Bomer about the legacy of voicing Superman and Molly Quinn gave us some insight on her favorite iteration of the blonde bomber known as Kara Zor-El.
