The Man of Steel: A Punch is Worth a Thousand Words

The Superman movie you’ve been waiting for.

In what could’ve been called Superman Begins, today the big blue is returning to cinema screens after a seven year absence in director Zack Snyder’s highly-anticipated Man of Steel from Legendary and Warner Brothers. The film teams comic-movie veteran Snyder (Watchmen, 300) with The Dark Knight‘s Christopher Nolan as producer and story co-writer with Batman Begins screenwriter David S. Goyer. That’s truly a Justice League of filmmaking talent.

Man of Steel shows us the origins of Kal-El as his father, Jor-El (Russell Crowe), sends him to Earth to avoid being among those lost in the destruction of a very beautiful, fully realized Krypton. After being raised by Smallville farmers the Kents (Kevin Costner and Diane Lane), the story picks up with Clark (Henry Cavill) searching the world to find meaning in his life while saving random innocent bystanders from oil rig explosions and the like. But once he’s on the radar of both Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane (Amy Adams) and the US government, it’s going to make defending the world against Kryptonian General Zod (Michael Shannon) that much more difficult. Plus, Morpheus teams up with Superman.

Snyder assures the fans that Nolan and Goyer have given Superman more “humanity” without diminishing his uber-hero status. “Without breaking the canon,” he says,” without taking away the things that make him Superman, they were able to make him totally relatable.” Superman may have been in your heart for as long as you can remember, but The Man of Steel is in theaters now.
